Guwahati International Airport, located about 25km outside the city, is the primary international and domestic hub in Northeast India. It services flights to Thailand and Bhutan, as well as major Indian cities. You can also charter helicopters to select north-eastern destinations like Shillong and Itanagar.

Guwahati’s two major railway stations are Guwahati Junction in the Paltan Bazaar area, and the newer Kamakhya Junction Railway Station, which is about 10km from the city centre. As Guwahati is one of the major rail hubs of the Northeast, you will find trains to all parts of the country originating from here.

The Assam State Transport Corportation Bus Station can be found in Paltan Bazaar, right behind Guwahati Junction railway station. Both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses to the rest of the Northeast, as well as to cities in West Bengal, ply from here.

Guwahati is considered the primary point of entry into India’s Northeast, and is connected to the rest of the region by state and national highways. You can reach Kolkata from Guwahati via NH 31.
