Ramasseri, an offbeat village in Palakkad, is famous for its delicious idlis. The soft, spongy, steamed rice cakes prepared at Ramasseri are flatter and rounder than conventional idlis and are eaten with podi (a tasty powder) mixed in coconut oil.
The origins are traced a century back to a Mudaliar family that migrated from Tamil Nadu and lived near the Mannath Bhagavathi Temple in Ramasseri. The well-guarded recipe has been handed down by older women of the community and remains a trade secret. When you’re sightseeing in Coimbatore, you have to try this coveted delicacy, that’s prepared by just four families in Ramasseri!
